In the 1960s and 70s, the husband-and-wife team of director Kijû Yoshida and actress Mariko Okada
realized a remarkable sequence of films that probed questions of gender and sexuality in Japan.

This poetic and sensuous example of their work together, based on a novel by Nobel Prize-winning author Yasunari Kawabata,
charts the consequences of photographs bearing witness to an extra-marital affair falling into the wrong hands...
