Casting Call: Actresses for graduate film
We are graduate students from the University of the Arts London Film department and are looking for a Japanese actress to play the characters: Nana and Ryo in our short film titled 'Call for the Baku'.
The film tells the story of Ryo; a child aged 7 that has been forced to become the sole carer for her own mentally ill mother, Nana, after she has given up. Throughout the film, Nana is void of any humanity. Constantly tired and depressed. However, this does not stop Ryo from taking care of her - the dynamic between mother and daughter has been reversed and this relationship is explored throughout the film.
Though feeling trapped by her situation and tempted by the stories of the Baku and its ability to end her nightmare. Ryo continues with the hopes that her perseverance will one day bring her mother back.
We are looking for:
Nana - a single Japanese mother age range from 28 - 40 playing age.
Ryo - a young child age range from 6 - 11 playing age.
Filming dates will be during the week of 14th of February during half term to stay clear of any school activities!
The film will be exhibited in the UAL graduation show where industry professionals will be invited for talent scouting. We also have plans of submitting the film to various international film festivals.
