This is a casting call for new and professional actors to appear in drama reconstructions scenes for a national TV Documentary.

24 Hours (Working Title) is a documentary-drama centring on the Japanese Government's decision to surrender in WWII. It focuses on the last 24 hours, from the Emperor issuing the order to surrender to the military coup that rose to try and stop it. This is a Like A Shot West production for a terrestrial broadcaster.

The production is releasing a casting call for Japanese and East Asian actors to appear in the programme's dramatised reconstruction. As this would be a non-speaking drama recon, acting experience would be preferred but is not essential. There will be no script. Instead, the cast will work around improvised scenes guided by direction.

The production is shooting for one day, on Thursday 8th of May, near Mile End, London and is paying a flat fee of £200 for the one day of shooting.

Roles:

The Emperor Hirohito, 44, Male:
As Emperor of Japan during WWII, he intervened when the Japanese Government reached a stalemate over surrendering. He gave an imperial order to surrender, sparking outrage in the Imperial Army and causing a coup against the Japanese Government.

Baron Kantarō Suzuki, 77, Male:
The prime minister of Japan during the end of the war. During the Japanese Government's surrender discussions, he led the side that argued surrender was Japan's best option. When the Government reached a stalemate, he asked the Emperor to intervene.

General Korechika Anami, 58, Male:
General Anami was the Minister of War in Japan. During the surrender discussions, he was the lead voice in arguing for Japan to continue fighting. However, when the Emperor made his final decision, he did what he could to ensure the army would comply.

Major Kenji Hatanaka, 33, Male:
Major Hatanaka was an officer within the Military Affairs section of the War Ministry. Infuriated upon hearing the news of an imperial order to surrender, he was a key conspirator in leading a military coup that seized the royal palace.

Lieutenant Colonel Masahiko Takeshita, 37, Male:
Lt. Col. Takeshita was another key conspirator in the coup to capture the palace. As Gen. Anami's son-in-law, he tried to convince him to continue the war.

Reiko Yasuki, 30, Female
Reiko Yasuki was a female radio announcer for the NHK in Tokyo. She was a key witness to the Emperor's national surrender broadcast and the coup that tried to stop it.
