Key responsibilities include gathering information, scheduling and attending interviews, taking notes, and assisting with supplementary reporting activities. A keen interest in a wide range of fields such as business, finance, and international affairs—along with a passion for journalism—is required. Additionally, the ability to adapt flexibly to the fast-paced environment of the newsroom is essential
Responsibilities;
Research
• Conducting research on a range of current affairs topics
• Reporting findings back to correspondents in a clear, succinct manner
• Making short, effective summaries of assigned topics
Press Conferences/Interviews
• Attending conferences, taking notes and reporting findings back to the Editorial Bureau
• Conducting short interviews both in person and by telephone
• Schedule appointments and prepare in advance for interviews
• Gathering information and comments from a wide range of people on specified topics
Deadlines
• Working under pressure and meeting time limits in a busy newsroom
• Ability to adapt to the demands of working with a 24hr news cycle
Other Ad-hoc Duties
• Provide general administrative support to the newsroom as required
• Contribute to English publication, Asia, with byline, as needed
Requirements:
• Native level English proficiency and the ability to quickly analyse, process, and summarise information across a variety of genres
• A demonstrable interest in Economics, Business or Finance
• A good eye for accuracy and detail
• Ability to engage with people of all levels confidently
• Ability to communicate ideas efficiently and clearly
• Knowledge of Japanese culture and language
• A deep understanding of diversity and the interpersonal skills to engage effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds
• Experience working within the media or within a research role is desirable
Conditions:
• Salary: £30-40,000 per annum, depending on experience
• Location: London City
• Working hour: 9:00 – 17:00
