Unique research and archive opportunity.
An English historian and writer is looking for assistance in archiving a
library of books, images and video research. You will have the chance to
look at, handle and archive books that are up to 300 years old.
The books are either about Art History or Historical/Cultural works about Britain.
The first task is to catalogue the library. That will be done on a spreadsheet and is a relatively easy and straightforward task. You will also need to be able to read some of the content and provide a short description about the book to complete the archival nature of the task.
All work done will be provided with both digital and written refrences.
The research element of the position relates to a book I am writing about the history of mythology and globalisation. I do not want to say more about this at the moment but as a researcher you will be receiving a master class in the subject and it is very likely that your views and understanding of the world will develop. This work is based on thirty years of my own research and writing which began at Ruskin College Oxford and continued at Girton College Cambridge. This work continued with an award of a Churchill Fellowship.
This will be an opportunity to have English conversation on both a social level and an acdemic level. I am also prepared to read any academic work the assistant may be doing, offer some essay tutorials and feedback. In this respect, I have been tutoring Japanese students in London for many years now and all of my students have received excellent grades.
This would suit someone who is maybe studying a Masters degree or possibly even a Bachelors degree in the Arts. If you have an interest in English history and culture this will be a unique opportunity to see
rare books.
The position is not paid but transport costs to and from this work will be covered and a good lunch provided.
What would be needed is attendance one or possibly two days a month but, for the right person, there is complete flexibility. The potential to develop this situation will rely on the availability of the assistant.
The first thing to do is e-mail with stating your interest. If you are looking to complete a degree then please tell me about that. If you could also let me know your age and the area of London you are living in then that would be helpful.
